HOW MANY SUPER CARS HAVE THE ENGINE IN FRONT?
Maybe a handful, at best. Most super cars place the engine behind the driver but in front of the rear axle. Placing a majority of the weight between the axles helps the chassis control the lateral and longitudinal g-forces during cornering, braking and acceleration.
Without an engine in front to work around, the quattro® front differential can be ideally placed. With the engine in front of the rear axle, its weight can be used to help the rear tires maintain traction.
Audi magnetic ride
Tiny magnetic particles within the shock fluid change structure when charged with electrical impulses. This helps soften or firm the shock’s damping response. Via the Audi drive select settings, the driver can choose from Comfort, Dynamic or Auto settings. Audi magnetic ride is standard on R8 V10 models only. R8 V10 plus and R8 V10 RWS models feature lightweight fixed-sport suspension.
Let us show you how Audi Magnetic ride works.
Dynamic steering offers a variable ratio that adjusts according to vehicle speeds and Audi drive select mode. By changing the steering ratio, Dynamic steering can improve straight-line stability at highway speeds and improve steering precision through the corners. Dynamic steering is available on R8 V10 and R8 V10 plus models.
Audi drive select
YOUR ON-BOARD CHASSIS ENGINEER.
By scrolling through the Audi drive select settings on the steering wheel-mounted button, you can change your suspension, steering and transmission response on the go. You can go from relaxed long-distance cruising to a high-performance set up in seconds.
Audi drive select—Comfort mode
Comfort mode favors a softer suspension and boosted steering power assistance that is ideal for long-distance travel.
Audi drive select—Auto mode
Auto mode provides the most balanced engine and chassis response.
Audi drive select—Dynamic mode
Dynamic mode provides optimal engine and chassis settings for performance driving conditions. The suspension is optimized for handling and body control, the steering is heavier for a more direct feel and the transmission shift pattern is tuned for immediate response.
Audi drive select—Performance mode
Audi R8 V10 plus models feature additional Audi drive select settings through the Performance mode button. Performance mode offers three pre-set calibrations for optimal performance on dry, wet and snow-covered roads.

Rear-wheel drive system
Driving the rear wheels of the Audi R8 V10 Coupe RWS is the same seven-speed S tronic® dual-clutch transmission found in the Audi R8 V10 Coupe. A mechanical limited-slip differential works with the vehicle’s traction control system to help provide torque where it’s most advantageous.
Wave-design disc brakes with Red calipers
The unique shape of the wave-design brake discs help circulate cooling air to internal vents and reduce weight and rotational mass. The 8-piston front and 4-piston rear calipers are finished in attention-grabbing red. Red brake calipers are standard on R8 V10 RWS and optional on R8 V10 models.
